Seven
Pioneer School students left the wind racked streets of Spokane, traveled
south to Pullman, and carried home the team trophy by a wide margin:
Pioneer School 16.5, Jefferson Elementary School 13.5,
Lincoln Middle School 12.5In the Pawn Section (grade 1-3) first place
was won outright by Connor Goselin-Harris with 4.5 points. Second place,
with 4 points was captured by Mir Park. Ryan Ha took first in grade 1,
Alden Duff won first in grade 2, and Addison Bowen placed first in grade
3.
The winner of the Knight Section (grade 1-5) was determined by
tie-breaks with 4.5 points each. Varum Ambalavanan pulled first and
Aniketh Parlapalli won second. Grade winners are Aditya Banyopadhyay and
Liam Reeves in grade 4. Emrik Gollnick captured first in grade 5.
The Rook Section (grades 1-12) winner was also a close contest. Second
grader Mythreya Dharani, playing-up in the top section pulled first place
with 4.5 points. Ethan Kessler, also scoring 4.5 points, pulled a draw
with Mythreya, but took second place due to tie-break analysis. Grade
winners of the Rook Section were: grade 6 won by Collin Bannister;
middle school won by Shohom Bandyopadhyay; and high school won by Austin Nasralis.
Brian Fugh won the upset trophy with a huge 388 point spread.
All players with 3 points or more qualify for WA State Elementary
Championship.
